Rooted Literary Magazine is a volunteer-run organization. We maintain a flexible, fully remote work flow designed to give publishing hopefuls experience across the different facets of periodical publication. Positions require about 3-10 hours of work a week depending on the role and stage of publication. We are currently accepting applications for the following roles:
Art Editor Duties
- Review 10 submissions a week and recommend the ones that fit the magazine’s image for publication.
- Provide artistic critiques.
- Communicate edits and manage revisions with contributors.
- Build issue lineups and keep production on schedule.
- Proofread and check final layouts for accuracy and consistency.
- Collaborate with the editorial team during meetings and review sessions.
- Maintain organized records of submissions, edits, and communication.
- Represent the magazine and support contributor/community engagement.
Music Editor Duties include
- Analyze music submissions for elements like lyrical content, rhythm, audio quality, and originality.
- Ensure the chosen songs adhere to the current submission call theme.
- Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief and Design Lead on designing lyric videos and visualizers using Canva.
